First Spinning Project Complete!

My first yarn is all spun, washed and knit up! Into my very first hat, no less! It seems hard to believe, but I have never made a hat before. It was so quick and easy that it certainly won't be my last.
Katie kindly offered to model it for me. When she started to pose, though, I started to worry. My kids are pretty used to me sticking a camera in their face, but I thought I had them trained to ignore me. Katie the Diva is showing her true colours here.

And I Will Love It and Squeeze It and Call It George

A couple of posts ago I showed you my Christmas knitting haul. And a nice haul it was too, even if I say so myself. There was one more thing to add to the pile, though, and it finally arrived yesterday. I will give you a hint. I went and got this earlier in the week in preparation...Yup, I am now the proud owner of my very own Majacraft Pioneer. So far I am really, really bad at spinning, but I am not too worried. It is the sort of thing that I tend to be pretty good at so I am sure it will come. I can't play soccer, volleyball and I seriously suck at basketball, but I can make things with my hands.
And I doubt I will actually call it George. It seems more feminine to me. Besides, I don't tend to name my stuff. The van is still just called "the van" and the car is still just called "the car." I must have Bugs Bunny on my mind, though, since that line has been going through my head since the wheel arrived.

Then again, there are worse names than George.

Oops! I Did It Again!

Oh, am I behind on my blog and on reading everyone else's! Over the Christmas holidays all routine was shot to heck. Kids home. Husband home. Slowly things are returning to normal. For the most part I like normal. A need for routine must be the ADD talking.

Waaaay back in November I cursed, swore and loudly proclaimed that I would NEVER knit with Noro Kureyon again. When the socks were finally finished I heaved a great sigh of relief and tried to put the experience behind me.

Then I started wearing them. Everytime I looked down and saw them peaking out from my jeans it gave me a little thrill. They were just so cool! I even forgave the orange.

So what did I do yesterday? See for yourself....

Somehow I just know that I am going to regret this purchase. But the colours were calling to me.

Meanwhile, I have another pair of socks off the needles. These are Online Supersocke Cotton, colourway 946. These are the first pair of socks that I have made using a cotton blend.

The bitterly cold weather that we have had since December is still not letting up very much. It has been slightly warmer, but I am really ready to get a break from it. Between the frigid temps and the short days it is getting to be a bit much. The kids left for school about 8:40 this morning and as I went back into my office and looked out the window the lightening sky it was tinged with lovely shades of blue and pink. It made a nice change from grey, slate and sludge coloured.
